The National Parks Service has granted permits for the Unite the Right Rally and several counter-protests for Sunday, August 12th. All guns have been banned from the events and the DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is planning to have a heavy presence to prevent violence. They have also prepared several emergency measures to prevent escalation. We recommend reviewing our travel advisory , our previous statement, as well as our safety information and the Visit DC safety page, and plan travel appropriately.

Hello Otakon Community,
We are reaching out to notify you that we are aware of the proposed rally which would be located between 1-2 miles away from the Walter E. Convention Center. The information that we have received from DC is that the rally will be well monitored as to have minimal or no effect on Otakon.

Otakon is excited to announce Director Tatsuyuki Nagai and Mechanical Designer Kanetake Ebikawa will be joining us this year!
Nagai-san is a director for animated movies and TV series and you may know him for Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans and "anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day among many other titles. Ebikawa-san is a Mechanical Designer who created the mecha designs for Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Full Metal Panic! among many others.

Otakon is excited to announce Masahiko Otsuka President of Studio TRIGGER will be joining us this year! Initially working in the live-action film industry, Masahiko Otsuka joined the animation industry as assistant director for Studio Ghibli's Pom Poko in 1992. He then moved on to Studio GAINAX; participating in many well acclaimed titles such as Neon Genesis Evangelion (episode director) and GURREN LAGANN (co-director). In 2011, Masahiko Otsuka and Hiroyuki Imaishi left GAINAX to establish their own animation company, Studio TRIGGER. Otsuka's most recent works include KILL la KILL and the Little Witch Academia series.
