Otakon is proud to announce the opening of a brand new hub for all things mecha!
What is the Otakon Mecha Kaikan? Kaikan in Japanese translates to “hall”, so simply put, the Mecha Kaikan is the Otakon Mecha Hall. The Otakon Mecha Kaikan will be an immersive and interactive mecha experience exclusive to Otakon. The Mecha Kaikan will feature mecha related panels, video and audio content integrated with free-range and expert led mecha modeling.
Catch all your favorite mecha related panels, videos and workshops in one location. Have a kit to build? Bring it along and build it in our build section while watching the action up on stage. Want to just zone out and build? Try out our new Silent Disco hardware and build your kit while listening to curated mecha related soundtracks and anisong.
On behalf of the Otakon Mecha Kaikan Staff, we can’t wait to see you there!
The Mecha Kaikan is located in Salon A-B, in the main lobby, right across from Registration. It will be hard to miss!
Day | Open | Close |
Friday | 9 AM | 2 AM |
Saturday | 9 AM | 2 AM |

Be sure to check out the Otakon Schedule for the full lineup of curated mecha panels and video screenings
You are welcome to bring any model you have purchased in the Dealer’s Room or elsewhere and build it in the build area of the Mecha Kaikan. Additionally, we are excited to be partnering with Gundam Planet, who will be offering kits and tools for sale in the Mecha Kaikan as well. Please pay attention to the marked areas indicating the free build space vs. the space reserved for workshops.
We will be offering two guided workshops, one on Friday and one on Saturday, hosted by Gundam Planet. There will be a small fee to participate in these workshops. The fee will include all kits, tools and professional guidance during the workshop. Pre-registration for these workshops will be available soon so keep an eye on our social media for more information!
Note: Basic tools (side nippers, sanding sticks, etc.) will be available for use at each table. If you choose to bring your own tools, you do so at your own risk as everyone must go through security and safety screening and any tools are likely to be detected and potentially confiscated.
If you don’t want to watch the panel or video going on, and just want to zone out and build your kit, please check out our new silent disco hardware. The silent disco hardware is provided free of charge, but is limited in quantity.
