We are very sad to announce that we must join the countless other events around the world and announce the cancelation of Otakon 2020. While we had been clinging to the last bits of hope that our later dates would allow us the potential to hold an event, on April 17th it was announced that our venue, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, would be converted into an Alternate Care Facility. After discussing the timelines with the Convention Center staff and Destination DC, even in the most optimistic scenario that the facility is not needed to be used they …
In light of current conditions, we recognize the need for more time before making the decision to register for this year. We are extending our "early bird" rate to May 11th, to coincide with our Badge Mailing deadline.

Our thoughts are with those affected by the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus and we want our members to know we are closely monitoring the situation as it continues to develop.
At this time, Otakon 2020 is planned to go on as scheduled, July 31-August 2, 2020.
We are not taking this matter lightly and are monitoring daily updates from the CDC and the World Health Organization, and continue to work with Events DC, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and our hotel partners to provide a safe place for our attendees to enjoy everything we have to offer this year.
We understand your frustration that hotel reservations for Otakon 2018 have not gone live yet. We are working hard each and every day in order to launch room reservations as soon as we can. Once everything is finalized, we will announce a date prior to reservations going live, so all of our members can plan accordingly. Once again, we deeply apologize for the delayed launch of hotel reservations, and will update you when they are ready to go live.

"Well everyone, our first of many years in DC has come and gone and we couldn’t be more happy! Our numbers were down this year, but we look forward to the growth that DC allows us and we look forward to continuing to bring you the best convention we can! Thanks for a wonderful 2017 and see you in 2018!"
-- John Gltuh, Otakon 2017 Convention Chair
After pulling in the final numbers from all departments, Otakorp Inc. is ready to announce the official attendance for Otakon 2017. The final number is: 24,894.
At the recommendation of the venue, Otakon 2017 will require bag inspections upon entering the convention space at the Mt Vernon Place doors of the Walter E Washington Convention Center and the M1 level of the Marriott Marquis. We apologize for any inconvenience or disruption this may cause. The bag inspections will be conducted by a third party contractor, and we are working with them to streamline the process as much as possible. You can help by keeping your bag organized and accessible, and by making sure you are not bringing in anything you are not supposed to (our list …
