Otakon 2021 will take place as scheduled from August 6-8, 2021 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center!  For more than 25 years, Otakon has been legendary for its unique and ground-breaking educational and cultural content. It is fitting that Otakon paves the way for future large events!

Otakon is dedicated to the safety of its membership and will be following any CDC and local guidelines that may still be in effect at the time of the convention.

Events DC has been working on a Recovery Plan and has put a lot of effort into improvements of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center that enhance sanitation and protect the health of everyone in the facility.  Check out our Location page that details the MANY technology upgrades they've made since our last visit!

More information will be forthcoming.

COVID Policies

We highly recommend that all eligible people are vaccinated if attending Otakon, but we will not be requiring proof of vaccination for entry.

We require masks be worn at all times for anyone over the age of 2. Certain exceptions will be made such as:

  • Presenters during panels or workshops while socially distanced
  • Cosplayers -only while photos are being taken and while socially distanced
  • While eating or drinking in designated areas
  • For the convenience of having their lips read by a person who is deaf or hard of hearing
  • Other areas as approved by Otakon Staff

This policy is subject to change based on changes to CDC guidelines, local regulations, or other data.  We will be keeping the following page updated with information and updates as they develop: https://www.otakon.com/info/covid/

Other Changes

We're still working out what things will need to change this year.  We will be confirming guests in the coming weeks and will announce them as they are finalized, however due to international travel restrictions and quarantine requirements, this year's event may not include any foreign guests.

Other possible changes may include pared-down hours, in order to allow the convention center adequate time to perform venue cleaning. Some high-traffic events such as Otakon Dance may not be held. Other changes will be announced as they are determined.  Please keep an eye on our website and social media for the latest.
