Volunteering at Otakon (Becoming a Gofer)
What you need to know
What is required to become a Gofer?
- You must be at least 16 years of age by the time of this year's con.
- You must be registered for Otakon 2013. If you are pre-registering to be a Gofer, you must be Pre-registered for Otakon.
- You must attend Gofer Orientation. This is mandatory!
In order to pre-register as a gofer you must also complete your pre-registration to attend Otakon. Though you don't have to be pre-registered before Otakon 2013, we STRONGLY URGE you to do so. We can process your registration at the Friday morning Gofer Orientation, if necessary.
What will you need to bring with you?
- Print out of your pre-registration e-mail confirmation.
- Photo ID.
What Do Gofers Do?
Here are a few examples:
- Help out at Registration.
- Assist at the Otakon sales table.
- Assist staff in areas like Workshops, Panels, and Masquerade.
- Involved with running of our Video tracks.
- Help Staff check badges in busy areas
- Help out with line control.
A few things you WILL NOT do as a Gofer:
- Handle money.
- Act as Security.
- Interact with Otakon VIPs, guests or BBC security.
A final word.
Many Otakon staffers, including con-chairs, section chiefs and department heads, started as gofers.
