Returning for his first Otakon since 2004, Richard Epcar is probably best known as the voice of Batou on the English dub of GHOST IN THE SHELL: STAND ALONE COMPLEX, or as the over-the-top Bobobo-bo Bo-bob in the inexplicable series of the same name. Richard's involvement with anime titles goes back to ROBOTECH, when then-girlfriend Ellyn Stern brought him to an audition. His extensive body of anime-related work over the years has included several beloved hit shows such as LUPIN III (for which he played Jigen in one dub and Goemon in another), DIGIMON, TRANSFORMERS, BLEACH, and NINJA SCROLL.

Richard has also voiced the Joker in the DC Comics video game, Radin in Mortal Kombat, and Ansem in Kingdom Hearts II. His voice can also be heard in both World of Warcraft and Everquest, and most recently in Blue Dragon. Richard is also a prominent ADR and voice director for videogames, movies, and television shows such as OLD BOY, NOEIN, BLUE DRAGON, UNREAL TOURNAMENT, PATLABOR 3, and many, many others. Fans of the various Power Rangers shows may recognize his voice as well; he voiced many of the monsters.

Derek Stephen Prince

Derek Stephen Prince probably would not be doing voice overs today had it not been for some very key people in his life that had a great impact. His great uncle was the first actor to play Pinocchio on stage, his grandmother and great aunt were professional dancers, his mom and dad did musical theater and his dad often did funny voices and celebrity impersonations.

He had always been trained in musical theater and graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a BFA in it. After taking a leave from doing a musical tour through the states, he wound up back in California where his dad was, and decided to pursue acting. After landing gigs on ER, Saved By the Bell, Profiler and some indie movies, things became slow so he took a class with Bob Bergen, who does the voice of Porky Pig and Tweety Bird. At the time, Bob had a role in Eagle Riders, where Steve first caught onto dubbing for anime.

After taking a multitude of classes, and pounding the pavement, he landed Aulric the Conqueror, his first major voice over role, on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. 12 years later, he has created a wealth of characters in the anime world that we all know. Here are just a few of the more memorable ones: Keitaro Urashima from Love Hina, Suguru Misato from Mahoromatic, Dr Root from Duel Masters, Mickey from the game Makai Kingdom, Nuke from the .hack series, Veemon, Impmon, Beelzamon & Ken Ichijoji from Seasons 2 & 3 of Digimon, Noxic from Big Bad Beetleborgs, Cho from Samurai Champloo, Phantom from MAR, Shino Aburame from Naruto, Uryu Ishida from Bleach, Arashi from Paradise Kiss, and Oswold from the PS2 game Odin Sphere.

Ellyn Stern
Voice Actor

Ellyn Stern started in anime with the original ‘Robotech’ series, in which she played several characters. When she auditioned, she brought along then-boyfriend Richard Epcar, and they both landed roles. That led to steady work over the years, much of it in the world of anime.

These days, Ellyn is currently most often heard playing "mom" characters -- Marumaru’s Mom and Jiro’s Mom in BLUE DRAGON, Yu’s Mom in NOEIN, Jack’s Mom in MÅR, and Masaki Kurosaki in BLEACH. She voiced Haraway in GHOST IN THE SHELL 2 - INNOCENCE, Rosalind in ARMITAGE III, Veronica Vera in SHADOW HEARTS II, and several roles in MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM - THE MOVIE TRILOGY. Ellyn has directed or co-directed english dubs for various foreign releases, including EAT DRINK MAN WOMAN and THE LAST EMPEROR. She also contributes several voices to the UGLY BETTY telenovas.

Stern and Epcar have appeared together on TLC's CLEAN SWEEP, and recently starred together in Neil Simon's RUMORS at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills.
